Build by hand
Make a sound from scratch. Put four parts on the canvas, your workspace, wire them together and listen. Then add a knob of your own that changes the sound.
- Works without RISR Pro
- About 5 min
Before you start
- The RISR app on an iPhone or iPad.
Steps
Start an empty project. Tap Projects and assets, the folder at the top right. If you don't see the folder, tap … there instead, then Projects. Then tap New project, the first one in Projects.

Double-tap an empty spot on the canvas. A list of parts slides up. Tap Oscillator.
- Oscillator
The list has a search box if you'd rather type a name.
Add three more the same way, each with a double-tap on an empty spot: Filter, Mixer and Audio output.
- Filter
- Mixer
- Audio output
Wire them in a line. Drag with one finger from the Oscillator's Audio out to the Filter's In. Then from the Filter's Audio out to the Mixer's Ch1. Then from the Mixer's Left to the Audio output's Left, and its Right to Right.

- Leftthe Mixer's and the Audio output's
- Rightthe Mixer's and the Audio output's
Each wire carries what one part makes into the next. Drop a wire on an empty spot instead and the list of parts opens, so you can add the next part there.
Turn the engine on: it makes RISR's sound. On the canvas, tap the R at the bottom left. You hear a steady tone.
- Turn the engine onon the canvas, the R at the bottom left: gold when it's on
The Oscillator makes the tone, the Filter shapes it, the Mixer sets how loud it is, and the Audio output plays it.
Open Live mode, the full-screen view for playing what you've made: tap the frame button at the top right, just right of the padlock. Your project's Live view opens empty, ready to edit.
- Live mode — full-screen viewthe frame at the top right, after the padlock
Add a knob. In the drawer at the bottom, tap Components, then Knobs & Encoders, then the first tile, a knob.
- Componentsthe drawer's second tab
- Knobs & Encodersa button above the tiles
Make the knob change the Filter. Under Binding, set Part to Filter and Parameter to Frequency. It then reads Controls Frequency on Filter.

- Frequencyin the Parameter list
The Filter's Frequency is the point where it starts to cut the sound. Pick Oscillator and Frequency instead and the knob changes the tone's pitch.
Tap Done, the check mark at the top. Then turn your knob and listen to the tone open and close.

Any setting of any part can have a control like this, and a view can hold as many as you like.
